Souderton Pennsylvania Historical
Information
Chartered in 1887, Souderton has a long standing tradition
of being a friendly and economical community in which to
live.
With its inception, only 600 people lived in the community
which was begun near a railroad, because it offered easy
access to nearby cities and towns such as Philadelphia.
 |
By 1910, the small community of 600 had doubled in size
and it hasn't looked back since, with about 6500
permanent residents in 2007. |
All through the
early 1900's the Railroad,(North Penn) gave the citizens a
way to get to Philadelphia, while the Liberty Bell Trolley
wove its path up Main Street to the community of Perkasie
through the 1950's.
Some of the original banks and businesses which were begun
in the late 1800's, including the Univest Corp, the boroughs
main bank, still remain active parts of the community of
Souderton, and are currently planning to expand even
further.
